Not had much to post lately. This is mainly due to having the house on the market for sale. As a result, I haven't planted anything in the beds at home and won't be entering much if anything in any shows.
I have started to take the carrot drums down. When I built the long carrot set up, it took 11 tonnes of sand and a lot of time, well it's just as tough taking it all out.
On the up side, I am moving to a large place in the country side with a very large garden. I will be able to have a much larger set up at home for my showing stuff but will be keeping the allotment on also. I am hoping that this will all be set up in time for the National Vegetable Championships next season at Dorchester, Dorset.

Cabbages moving slowly
It's been just over a week since my last post where I transplanted my cabbages from 2" pots to 4" pots. Although they are nice and strong, they are moving a lot slower than normal due to the cold weather. This time last year they had been transplanted outside but it needs to warm up a bit more before I chance it.
I will for sure have some nice cabbages as previous but if things don't warm up soon and start picking up, they wont be ready for the Southern Championships.

Potting Up
The Ramco cabbage were starting to out grow their 2" pots and the roots were coming out of the bottom and looking healthy. It was time to pot them up into 5" pots.
I use square pots as round pots encourage the roots to grow round the in side of the pot, whereas the roots grow into the corner of the square pots, which then allows them to get out easier when planted out.
First I took an empty 2" pot and put it inside the 5" pot, putting the corners of the 2" pot to the sides of the 5" pot. I then filled both with the compost. Then I remove the 2" pot, leaving a hole just the right size for the plant to be dropped into.

Tip the plant out of the 2" pot and drop it in the hole in the 5" pot
Press the plant in firmly then level up with compost.
